Songs For A Wedding
Songs For A Wedding - What Are The Best Choices?
Deciding on the perfect wedding songs can be a tough decision. Some couples have a special song or a favourite band, which can help guide the song choices, although there are so many songs from which to choose.
So many parts of the wedding day can be enhanced with music and there is nothing better than having music played live to add to the atmosphere.
Music For All Parts Of The Wedding Day
Parts of the wedding day that will benefit from live music:
- Entertainment as the wedding guests arrive.
- The bride and groom walk down the aisle.
- Signing of the register.
- Exit music.
- During the photos.
- A musical backdrop for the wedding breakfast.
- Evening entertainment.
Music For The Wedding Ceremony
I was recently asked to learn the song "I Choose You" to be played as the bride and groom walked down the aisle. I had not heard this song before, but soon realised it was an excellent song choice and worked perfectly for this part of the ceremony.
One big advantage of live music is that a song can be arranged to perfectly fit the part of the ceremony for which it is intended. "I Choose You" is a great example of arranging music to suit as we were asked to change some of the words to make the song personal. The song was also shortened to perfectly fit the timing of everybody walking down the aisle.
Although this song was planned to perfection, I have played many weddings at which the musical accompaniment needed to be shortened or lengthened to fit with what was happening at that precise moment. This is not possible with recorded music.
A Wedding Celebrates Your Love Story
Older, classic songs are a great choice when looking to cater for the musical tastes of your wedding guests, although there are also many great songs by modern artists.
Taylor Swift is hugely successful in the world of music and has many great songs that younger wedding guests will enjoy. Love Story is a song that I enjoy performing in our acoustic duo and as a solo acoustic guitarist.
This song will keep any 'Swifties' entertained on your big day.
There Are No Rules When Choosing Music For A Wedding
What happens when the bride and groom are big fans of a band such as the Foo Fighters? Play a classic Foo Fighters song for wedding exit music... why not!?!
I was asked to perform "Times Like These" by the Foo Fighters on solo acoustic guitar at a wedding for the exit music. While this might seem like an unorthodox song choice, it worked extremely well. This is a classic rock track, although when performed on acoustic guitar, the song can still be played while retaining a more mellow acoustic sound.
Don't be afraid to make unorthodox choices when deciding on songs for your wedding. It is these types of things that put a personal stamp on the big day.
